Waxy celebs, touchable science & tech | Tijuana museum hop
Tijuana has a knack for juxtaposing extreme contrasts of all incarnations, including museums. Example A: El Trompo, the city’s newly built interactive science and technology museum that’s the size of a NASA hanger and technically intended for kids but appeals to kids of all ages. Example B: The Wax Museum, decently summed up by Lonely Planet (although they failed to mention Whoopi Goldberg in “Sister Act” garb, the Aztec human sacrifice happening at the entrance or the entire Halloween wing): “Most of the motley crew at the Museo de Cera look mildly constipated, but it’s fun anyway. Madonna appears to have had open-heart surgery, Michael Jackson looks creepy and John Lennon, yep, appears appropriately stoned.”
The $40 ticket includes private transportation from the border on the famed Turista Libre fun bus, admission to both museums and a taco lunch.
The group meets on the U.S. side of the San Ysidro pedestrian border crossing near the UETA duty free shop on Camiones Way at 11 a.m., with an estimated return to the border around 6 p.m. Meeting spot map.
Space is limited so prepaying is a must. Get tickets here.
